Gilda
Radner was an American comedian and actress, best known for her
five years as part of the original cast of Saturday Night Live.
Radner, who died at the age of 42 of ovarian cancer, became an icon
for public awareness of both detection and treatment of the disease. Her
dying wish was to create a place where people with cancer could
go to receive support. Through the efforts of Gene Wilder and Gilda's
therapist, Joanna Bull, the first Gilda's Club was opened in New
York City in 1995.
-
Gilda's
Club Louisville's mission is to create welcoming communities of
free support for everyone living with cancer - men, women, teens
and children - along with their families and friends. Our innovative
program is an essential complement to medical care, providing networking
and support groups, workshops, education and social activities.

The
event has grown and evolved and is estimated to have raised more
than $200,000 this year, which will help ensure our red doors remain
open for men, women, and children living with cancer in our community.
