OUR STORY

Since 1914 when Rodes opened its first men's shop, Rodes has been a family-first, family run, American company that believes QUALITY IS THE FABRIC OF LIFE. We believe in INTERNATIONAL STYLE AND LOCAL TRADITIONS. We know that good service never goes out of style and that RELATIONSHIPS ARE PRICELESS. We think STYLE IS TIMELESS and clothes should be the perfect expression of YOU. We believe in made-to-measure and tailored to fit. We see ART IN THE MIX and have the eye to produce the whole.

Rodes is one of the oldest, still family-owned businesses in Louisville, Kentucky and the US.

The haberdashery opened in 1914 as a men's store in the Starks Building in downtown Louisville. It was founded by John Price Starks, William Rapier, and John Starks Rodes as the Starks Company, later changing its name to Rodes-Rapier due to a lawsuit, and eventually becoming simply Rodes. Current president Howard Vogt's wife Susan is a descendant of one of the founders, John Starks Rodes Louisville, making it a true multi-generational family business. Over the years it expanded to 7 locations, went through a rebranding in the late 1990s toward more specialized brands, and added women's apparel in 2002 with the launch of Rodes for Her.

Rodes has survived the Great Flood, the Great Depression, and two World Wars, and is still family-owned today shop-rodes — now operating out of 4938 Brownsboro Road as Rodes For Him | For Her.

Rodes Community Engagement

Rodes has been a part of Louisville for over 112 years, and we care deeply for the local community.  We are engaged with a variety of organizations whose missions enrich and empower people in Louisville. A heartfelt thank you to all of the organizers, sponsors, and attendees who donate their expertise, services, time, and money to make these events possible.

Rodes and Bittners have alternately sponsored this incredible event for Gilda's Club of Louisville. The annual event raises over $800,000 annually!

Gilda's Club believes that living with cancer is not a choice, but how you live with it is. Gilda's provides a free, non-residential place where men, women and children with cancer, along with their families and friends, join with others to build social and emotional support.

All proceeds from this event benefit the Gilda's Club of Louisville.
